Yes, it almost Lent again. This Wednesday February 10th begins the season of lent. Please check elsewhere in this bulletin for the schedule of Masses for the distribution of ashes, as well as a prayer service with the distribution of ashes. Minimal requirements for lent: Fast and Abstinence on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and abstinence from meat on the Fridays of Lent.
The creation of a new parish on July 1, 2016, will also call for new parish trustees to be a part of the legal board of the parish. I have been blessed in my years in Port
Washington—first as pastor of St. Peter, and then for the last 6 years with all three parishes—to have worked with a good group of trustees. Current trustees: Mike Keller & Sheri Murphy for St. Peter, Jim Kitzinger & Julie Russell for St. Mary, and Mary Laux & Betty Vande Boom for Immaculate Conception. These trustees have served well their communities, as well as having a good vision for the future as our parishes worked together. They have been a good support for me as pastor. (Oh and they still have lots of work to do as we continue to move toward merger—this isn’t ‘good-bye’ just yet!). Over the next few weeks I will be writing about the role of trustees, and eventually we will have an election for the trustees of the newly formed parish.
Anointing of the Sick:
We will be offering the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick following the 9:00 am Sunday Mass at St. Mary's on February 21st. Anyone who could benefit from the prayers of the Church and community is invited to receive the Sacrament.
