Recovery of Fraudulent Funds - Update
We have recently received more positive news in the recovery of fraudulent funds missing from our parish. Through an ongoing investigation conducted by Federal authorities, additional missing dollars have been located and returned to St. John XXIII. As of today, law enforcement has recovered $143,166 of the monies related to the fraud and Catholic Mutual Insurance has provided $146,800 in insurance payments totaling nearly $290,000 applied to the building project.
As the investigation continues, the likelihood exists that additional dollars may be recovered. Further recovery efforts along with additional insurance coverage are expected to significantly close the gap of funds lost by our parish. We are thankful for the progress made toward resolving this unfortunate event and are optimistic that we will be able to deliver more good news within the next month.
Since being victimized by this fraudulent scam, we have put new safeguards in place to prevent such a thing from reoccurring in the future. With guidance from the Archdiocese, parish administration will continue to review, evaluate and modify its processes and procedures to ensure a maximally secure financial transaction system.
As an update to our building expansion project which includes the school addition and renovated narthex at St. Peter’s, all work is scheduled for completion this fall as originally planned. We look forward to seeing this project come to fruition as we continue to realize our goal of gathering and growing as one in faith, education and community!
